Rotary Club of Royal Oak Supports In-School Mentoring

A BIG thank-you to the Rotary Club of Royal Oak!

On April 28, 2008, the Rotary Club of Royal Oak President Mr. Troy Alexander presented Big Brothers Big Sisters with a cheque for $3923 to support In-School Mentoring Programs at Macaulay and Craigflower Elementary Schools. The In-School Mentoring Programs will be introduced to these schools in September 2008 and will serve up to 35 children per year.

The funds will be used to purchase laptop computers, materials, and books to help children at these schools build and enhance their literacy, numeracy, and comprehension skills. In-School mentors spend an hour per week with children and at least 15 minutes of the one-to-one mentoring time is spent working on literacy skills. The computers will be used to train mentors, to enhance programs, and by children and mentors who can now work together in any number of designated spaces in and around the schools.

The Rotary Club of Royal Oak is a service group dedicated to excellence and contribution in their personal, professional, and community dealings. Visit the Rotary Club Website to learn more about their members and activities.
