Telus Corporation Supports In-School Mentoring Programs

Telus Corporation has been a champion for children for many years and on May 1, 2008, Mr. Mel Cooper, Chair of the Telus Victoria Community Board, made a commitment to the children in Big Brothers Big Sisters In-School Mentoring Programs.

Telus has made a $4000 contribution to support the recruitment and training of In-School mentors. The mentors will introduce In-School Mentoring Programs to Macaulay and Craigflower Elementary Schools in September 2008. These designated ‘inner-city’ schools do not currently have mentoring programs.

Rhonda Brown, Executive Director, noted that this grant makes a world of difference. Big Brothers Big Sisters has wanted to provide services to this very special group of children for some time. With these new resources in hand, Big Brothers Big Sisters can introduce much-needed mentoring programs to 35 children. While the children are diverse in every way, they share a familiar characteristic, all of them need a mentor and positive role model in the lives who can spare one hour per week and dedicate that hour to helping them learn, grow, and be successful.

Thank you Telus!
