Victoria, B.C. – Best Buy is expanding its presence on Vancouver Island with a new store and a commitment to children in Greater Victoria. On October 16, Best Buy presented Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria with a $10,000 donation at the Grand Opening of its Langford store at #109 – 2955 Phipps Road, Victoria, BC (at the Westshore Town Centre).
Rhonda Brown, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters said, “We cannot be more pleased that Best Buy has become an active member of our community. Not only are they providing jobs for parents and youth and a full range of great products for consumers, but they are also committed to helping local children who need the support of a positive role model and mentor in their lives. Mentoring programs help children and youth build confidence and self-esteem, learn and enhance problem-solving skills, and become more engaged, resilient, and positive at school, at home, and in life. Best Buy’s donation will help Big Brothers Big Sisters provide mentoring programs to more than 600 children and youth at-risk in communities across Greater Victoria in 2009.”
Best Buy is deeply committed to kids and community. Since 2002, Best Buy has donated millions of dollars and thousands of employee volunteer hours to charitable organizations focused on youth, including donating over a million dollars to Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies across Canada.
