BBBS Victoria knows that our most valuable assets are found in our human capital - our mentors, volunteers, donors and sponsors, and staff. But, we also need financial resources to sustain and grow our operations and mentoring services in order to meet the demand from our commuity.

 

Sometimes we are asked why we need money. The answer is two-fold. 

 

First we invest human and financial resources in two key areas – volunteer recruitment, volunteer and family orientation and matching, and volunteer and family training, and secondly in on-going match monitoring and support for the adult mentor and the child, and family liaison with an experienced case-worker throughout the length of the mentoring match. We also seek donations to be able to provide supplies, learning resources, and activities for mentors and their Littles, to recognize and appreciate volunteers, and, of course, to pay for core items such as rent and utilities. 

 

Secondly, we need to increase our services so that in addition to serving the more than 500 current Big and Littles and the dozens of Littles who are waiting for a mentor, we can also expand our mentoring services to reach out to children and youth who have been identified as being at-risk in our communities.

 

To fill the gap between the annual resources we self-generate through our social enterprise, the 'Donation Centre' and fund raising events, those raised through grants, sponsorships, and donations, and those we need to enhance our operational capacity to meet demand in the community and serve 1000 children and youth in Greater Victoria by 2010, we need to attract new human and financial resources to the agency.
