Frequently Asked Questions

How do I prepare my donation for pick-up?
Please place items in bags and tie securely or sturdy boxes (no larger than a standard grocery store box).  We recommend plastic bags as we collect rain or shine and cannot accept items that are wet or soiled.  Mark your bags or boxes with the letters “BB.” Our drivers are trained NOT to collect unmarked packages or items.

All donations must be placed at the end of your driveway by 8 am the morning of the scheduled pick up.

When will the truck come?
Our trucks start their routes at 8 a.m., and drive all day (sometimes until dark), so your stop could be any time of day.  Unfortunately we can not specify or arrange for specific pick up times within those hours.

How do I cancel a scheduled pick-up?
Please call (250) 385-7226 no later than 9 am on the day scheduled, and we will remove your stop from our list. We will be very grateful you saved us the time and gasoline—and we can always re-schedule your donation day

Can I drop off my donations?

We regret that our lease does not allow for donations to be dropped off at our office location.  Items for us may be taken directly to ValueVillage at 1810 Store Street.

Their receiving hours are:  Mon – Fri 9:30 am – 7:30 pm and 9:30 am – 4 pm Sat & Sun.

What does Big Brothers Big Sisters Donation Center do with the donations?
Big Brothers Big Sisters Victoria has had a partnership with ValueVillage (www.savers.com) since 1998.  This partnership has become one of our most successful fundraising methods and is integral to our agency's growth and goal to eventually provide a mentor to every child who needs one.

Why doesn’t Big Brothers Big Sisters Victoria operate its own store? The agency believes that it is more cost efficient to raise funds through ValueVillage.  This way we do not have the cost or risk of being in the retail business.  ValueVillage is an expert in the retail business while we specialize in providing quality mentoring services to children in the Greater Victoria area.

What can I do with items that you do not take?
We suggest visiting the Capital Regional District website at http://www.crd.bc.ca   and checking out their recycling directory.
