Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds

Go Girls! is a group mentoring program for girls aged 9 to 14 (Grades 4 to 8) that focuses on physical activity, balanced eating and self-esteem. Female mentors (Go Girls! group leaders) are women between the ages of 19 and 30. The single, most important goal of the program is to positively shape the lives of young women and girls by helping them build a positive self-image – setting them on a path to reach their full potential in life. Each session is made up of 8 to 10 girls and 2 to 3 mentors.

The daytime Go Girls! program consists of 10 weekly mentoring sessions and will run from early October to early December 2017. Each session is between 1.5 and 2 hours long.  Participants are referred into the program by their teacher or school counsellor. The group meets during school hours at one of our partner elementary or middle schools:

  • George Jay Elementary

  • Spencer Middle School

  • Shoreline Community School

  •  John Stubbs Memorial School

  •  Dunsmuir Middle School

  •  Rockheights Middle School

  •  Quadra Elementary School

The Go Girls! program will also be offered during the evenings in the fall of 2017. The weekly sessions run for  10 weeks -- 2 hours each week/1 evening per week -- at the Go Girls! Lounge at Uptown Shopping Centre.  This program is free but pre-registration is required. Please call 250-745-1117, extension 50 for more details.
